THE MODERN STAGE of La Carrera Panamericana

1988 – till today

Thirty-four years had to pass before La Carrera Panamericana became a fundamental part of the history of motorsport in the country.

In 1988 a group of enthusiastic promoters, among which the Eng. Pedro Dávila and Eduardo de León, try and manage to revive La Carrera Panamericana, summoning for it the different automobile groups of the world for its celebration.

Thus, in 1988 began a new cycle for La Carrera with the start of the 1st Pan American Race, but now in its modern stage.

For this purpose, a new regulation was created within which competence is reserved for automobiles manufactured between 1940 and 1965, depending on the category, but allowing the modernization of the units in terms of suspensions and safety.

A legend that returned ...

During the 2012 edition, the starting mark was given in the city of Veracruz, from where the Race started in the year of 2014. The goal was also changed alternately, taking place in the city of Nuevo Laredo, in the northern state of Tamaulipas, as in the city of Zacatecas in the state of the same name.

Since the relaunch of the new stage of La Carrera, the automotive race has passed on federal, state and secondary asphalt roads for seven days, with a total route of approximately 3,000 kilometers, a route that is modified year after year.

Since then, the race has become the most important rally-type automotive sport event in our country, in addition to maintaining its relevance at the international level, conforming to its surroundings a story that continues adding memories and anecdotes that intertwine speed, machinery and precision . Classic cars are modified to meet modern safety standards and to continue enjoying the unique experience of running motor vehicles on open roads at maximum speed.

2017 is the year in which the competition celebrated its XXX anniversary and represented many years of passion, work, difficult moments, emotions and great efforts.

Our Anniversary was celebrated with the participation of Adrian Fernandez as Grand Marshall. We were also accompanied by Steffan Johansson, Jo Ramirez, World Motorsport icon and Martin Vaca, Mexicanico.

Our Anniversary was celebrated with the participation of Adrian Fernandez as Grand Marshall and, in addition, he toured the entire race making presence in each of the goal arcs. We were also accompanied by Steffan Johansson, Jo Ramirez, World Motorsport icon and Martin Vaca, Mexicanico.

Likewise, the Photographic Exhibition “Celebrating Motoring in Mexico in the framework of the XXX Anniversary of the Pan American Race” was held, whose objective was to take all the fans for a trip over the years in the framework of motorsport in Mexico referring to other categories that have been linked to Carrera Panamericana as the particular case of Formula 1 that recently returned to our country.

We also visited Nick Mason along with Jo Ramirez in his studio in London, where he told us about his experiences when he participated in La Carrera Panamericana in 1992.

We also carried out a great alliance with the Grand Prix of Mexico Formula 1, where the main idea is to enhance both competitions to achieve a greater popularity worldwide. Both have a great reputation in the world, being La Carrera Panamericana the only competition in the world where it is still running on public roads at maximum speed (with the obvious security measures by the authorities), while the Grand Prix of Mexico has again become a classic of the calendar, being named in three consecutive times the Best GP of the season.

Social work

During the last 7 years Fundación Telmex has delivered more than 600 chairs donated in the last 7 editions of La Carrera Panamericana.

The most important thing about La Carrera Panamericana is the people, that is to say, it is the spirit that emanates from it and that year after year follows it. It is an event with solidade whose main characteristic is the hospitality of the Mexican. Secondly, there is the great competitiveness that the crews have achieved with their great preparation and experience.

The “Spirit of the Race” is undoubtedly the engine that attracts competitors to live a true Mexican adventure. Without forgetting the environment. A unique atmosphere, identical to the one that reigned fifty years ago.

Without a doubt … the legend continues !! …
